Profile of Karate NL Competitor John Stamp
John Stamp is a member of Avalon Karate club under Sensei Derek J. Ryan in Pouch, NL. John is a high school student who aspires to a career in Engineering and has a great interest in Aviation. He began karate when he was 8 years old and he continues to train with enthusiasm and drive that inspire the younger students in his home dojo. At 17 years of age he is the team veteran and he is making his third appearance at the Nationals. He gained much experience in meeting the competitive challenges in Calgary 2009 and Toronto 2010. John continues to improve his skills and performance through dedication and hard work. His goal for Nationals 2011 is to deliver a strong performance and serious challenge in each of his events. Provincial coaches Wing Au and Kim Fitzpatrick are proud to have John Stamp as member of the Karate NL Team 2011 representing the province and the karate membership of Newfoundland & Labrador.
Profile of Karate NL Competitor Joshua Coady
Joshua Coady was about 8 years old when he began Chito Ryu karate under Sensei Derek J. Ryan of Avalon Karate club. Joshua is a 16 year old high school student who is doing well and has yet to decide what future career he may pursue. He is achieving the academic success which will provide him many options and choices in the future. As a member of Avalon Karate club, he has grown to become a serious and skilled young karate-ka who accepts every challenge and works with dedication and commitment focused to achieve success. Last year in Toronto he had his first experience with national competition. It was a great competition which he thoroughly enjoyed. Nationals 2011 will be his second year as a national competitor. He has been working diligently towards this opportunity to put forth his best performance to test his skills against those of the best at the Canadian Nationals 2011. Provincial coaches Wing Au and Kim Fitzpatrick are delighted to have this young skilled and enthusiastic competitor on the team. Karate NL is proud to have Joshua Coady represent the province and the membership at Karate Canada Nationals 2011.
Profile of Karate NL Competitor Alex Lawlor
Alex Lawlor began his training in Tsuruoka Karate while still in early elementary school. His instructor, Sempai Wing Au, trained and guided young Alex over the years at the NL Tsuruoka Karate dojo in Paradise, NL. Alex is a 15 years old high school student who is doing well but has not yet made any decisions regarding future careers. His high academic standing will ensure good opportunities to make interesting career choices. Last year was Alex’s first Karate Canada Nationals. Although he did not medal, he gave a strong performance and a worthy challenge to his opponents. Alex is intelligent, hard-working and a dedicated karate-ka who aspires to build on his experience and training to deliver his best at Karate Canada Nationals 2011. Provincial coaches Wing Au and Kim Fitzpatrick are pleased to have this dedicated student and strong competitor on the team.
Profile of Karate NL Competitor Kevin Gosse
Kevin Gosse is a 14 year old high school student who began Chito Ryu Karate while still in early elementary school. Under Sensei Derek J Ryan of Avalon Karate club, Kevin trains hard to improve his skills and perfect his technique. This year will be his first Karate Canada Nationals. He is the rookie of Karate NL Team 2011. This Nationals will be a great experience and opportunity for Kevin as a competitor to test himself and learn about the caliber of national level competition. He is eager, enthusiastic and ready to accept the challenges. Kevin has been training many months and weeks to prepare for this Nationals 2011. He is committed to offering his best efforts and performance in all his events. Provincial coaches Wing Au and Kim Fitzpatrick are pleased with his training and dedication. Karate NL is happy to see Kevin Gosse represent his province and the karate membership of Newfoundland & Labrador at the 2011 Karate Canada National Championships.
Profile of Karate NL_new assistant coach 2011: Kim Fitzpatrick
Kim was recruited by head coach Wing Au to join the coaching staff 2010-2011. Kim took over the primary responsibilities on floor for both the Atlantic Championships (Bridgewater, NS) and the Karate Canada National Championships 2011 (Montreal, QC). Kim is a Chito Ryu member of Avalon Karate club under Sensei Derek J Ryan. His dedication and commitment to the team were evidenced by his hard work at both of these recent major tournaments. Kim's interest and enthusiasm are great assets to the team and coaching staff. Karate NL is happy to welcome him on board.
